Wash and soak the basmati rice in cold water for 15 minutes. Drain and set aside. 2. Heat the oil or ghee in a deep saucepan over medium heat. 3. Add the cumin seeds and fry until fragrant. 4. Add the onions and fry until lightly browned. 5. Add the green chillies, ginger, and coriander powder, and fry for a few seconds more. 6. Add the cardamoms, bay leaves and garam masala and fry for a few more seconds. 7. Add the drained rice and salt and stir to combine everything. 8. Pour in the two cups of water, reduce the heat to low, and cover the pan. 9. Cook for 15 minutes or until the rice is done and all the water has been absorbed. 10. Fluff the pulao with a fork and garnish with the chopped fresh coriander leaves. 11. Serve hot with your favorite accompaniments. Enjoy!
